The Orkestra Jangkrik dan Gamelan Listrik Aneh or The Orchestra of Cicadas and the Strange Electric Gamelan is a solo musical project by the composer Zemi17 (Aaron Taylor Kuffner) started in 2005 in Yogyakarta Indonesia. The project is both a platform for studio albums as well as live performances. The Orkestra Jangkrik project is dedicated to creating a hybrid musical form incorporating samples of nature, Indonesian gamelan music and a unique modern electronic approach to composition. The project utilizes sound samples from Kuffner's ethnomusicological research in Indonesia as well as his field recording of nature focused heavily on the songs of insects and birds. Nature recording are often cut into small pieces and scored into classic Javanese and Balinese Gamelan motifs, while the sounds of gongs and xylophones often are electronically morphed and digitally manipulated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Orkestra Jangkrik dan Gamelan Listrik Aneh has releases two volumes of albums in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
